Buying a Ready-to-go Packer
[video_embed url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UWvm5DIdqc”]Buying a ready-to-go packer is not my first recommendation. Unless you truly know the goats history, you never know if you are getting a quality packer. I have bought adult packers from people and more often than not they don’t work out. The average price for an adult packer is $600-$1,000 and if it doesn’t work out it can be a waste of time and money. Additionally, they can be much more difficult to train or even integrate into your existing herd.
If you do decide to go with this method, plan for ample time to get them to trust you, follow you etc before taking them out on the trail. You don’t want a goat to run off on your first trip.
