How it works

  1. Call Marc first. (208) 867-6675. He wants to know your setup, your terrain and what you want the goats to do. Please don't place a deposit until you've talked.
  2. Put down $300 per kid. That holds your place in line. Deposits are nonrefundable unless we can't fill your order.
  3. Pick your kids. Visit Ripple Ranch in Idaho or work with one of our partnered breeders. Marc helps you choose. Deposits are honored in the order received.
  4. Pick up 45 to 60 days after birth. The balance, $350 per kid, is paid to Ripple Ranch or the breeder at pickup. Total is $650 a kid.

Where the kids come from

Ripple Ranch and partnered breeders Marc has vetted. Every doe is disease tested annually. Every kid we suggest is packgoats.com approved and from proven packer genetics.

What Marc looks for in a packer

Size potential, bone, a long back and a calm head. A kid that comes to the fence beats a flashy one that runs. He'll tell you which ones he'd pick and why.

Questions people ask before they call

Buckling or doeling?

Most pack strings are wethers (castrated bucklings): bigger frame, no heat cycles, steady on the trail. Doelings make sense if you also want milk or plan to breed.

How many should I start with?

Two at minimum. Goats are herd animals and a single goat is an unhappy goat. Most new packers start with two or three.

What do I need ready before pickup?

Fencing, a dry shelter, a plan for bottle feeding if the kids are young, and the first-year basics. The How to Raise a Baby Goat course walks through all of it.

Can I visit before I decide?

Yes. Ripple Ranch in Idaho welcomes visits by arrangement. Ask Marc when you call.
