Sick Baby Goat with Diarrhea

A sick baby goat with diarrhea is a symptom. Symptom of stress, coccidia, and bacteria in the gut, that are out of skew or not operating properly. Baby goats get diarrhea super easy. Even by changing from one brand of cow's milk to another. Diarrhea is something not to freak out about it can be easily solved with a little Kaopectate or Peto Bismol for the first 2 days.

*Give 4ML once a day for 2 days. Should soothe and calm down the inflammation with a gentle approach.  If those two days don't resolve themselves then there is something more.

*On the 3rd day of diarrhea, give Sulfa, also known as SMZ, it is a big pill. Break-in half put in the bottle of milk, shake to liquefy, give once a day for 5 days. Important to finish the cycle, even tho diarrhea is gone at 3 days.

*A baby goat that is non-eating, give SMZ right away, and Pepto Bismol in a combination to help dissolve. Eventually, their bellies hurt with having diarrhea they aren't going to want to eat. Give a drench of Kaopectate or Pepto Bismol for one day and let them settle their stomachs, then try to get them to eat.

Look for Stumbling or Falling Down Baby Goats

If you see your baby goat being stumbling, falling down, or looking punch drunk. Goat polio is known during stressful events, pain, sickness, or stress of transport their brains get depleted of thymine, a vitamin B. It is a neurologic disorder. Give a shot of vitamin B or a vitamin B paste, a low dose to rejuvenate the thymine levels in their brain. If it is severe with seizures, blindness, and not standing call a vet and they will give them a thymine shot in their neck. Vitamin protocol will be given. To replace thymine in their brains take a couple of days.

Pneumonia or Just a Cough

Is it pneumonia or just a cough? When a baby goat bottle feeds they naturally have a wet cough afterward and shortly after they will do it a couple of times. There is a huge difference between a cough and a wet cough. It can be very impactful with babies. By patting them on the chest you can tell if you know there is fluid in their lungs. Give an antibiotic injection of an SMZ/Sulfa 5 day cycle, or LA300 or Nuflor full cycle of 3-day dose.
