Hand Tools

  • Backcountry: there to survive: breaking sticks best for firewood and cooking/ less smoke when using sticks
  • Fire efficiency: reflection line 3 sticks one way 3 sticks other direction
  • Fiskars splitting ax used mostly as a hammer, has a synthetic handle
  • Silky saw: big awesome saw, powerful, and sharp: good for trail brush and bigger logs, there are smaller models available

 

Chairs

  • Helinox chair about $190 3.5 lbs
  • Mountain cascade about #39 4.5lbs: larger back, more durable

 

Cot

  • Helinox is about $300 Best cot
  • Still needs a bed pad for insulation: laying on the key factor, get a -20 degree pad to be warm
  • Cot lite is for women and children: flimsy
  • Cot One with legs elevated and is helpful to put boots on

 

Light

  • Lights up the tent, hangs for easy access, and glows in the dark to turn on

 

Shower

  • Don’t use a solar bag, not efficient
  • Better to use a smaller compact and heat up water with a cool water mix

 

In-Reach Mini

  • It is mini, use for mileage, synch to computer at home, send texts, get weather reports, and can be charged for a 10 day trip
