There are so many reasons goats should be your go-to pack animal. Here are just 5:

1. Compared to horses, mules and llamas, goats can cover terrain that none of the others can. Goats can’t carry as much weight as the rest, yet carry a more proportionately to their body weight. Horses can be dangerous if spooked, goats do not self destruct.
2. Goats are herd animals, which means they will follow you because you are their herd leader. You don’t have to lead goats because they follow you on their own will.
3. The overall cost of owning pack goats is significantly cheaper than owning any other pack animal.
4. Goats consume very little water. Horses and llamas need to be camped on water. With goats, that is one less thing you have to worry about in the back country.
5. Pack goats can make better pets than a dog.
